229 - If you could get anyone drunk, who would it be and what would you do?
[Locked from Starbuck]
I'd get myself drunk at this point. Or the whole crew. God, we need it with the way
But that's not the reason, not really. If I could actually get anyone drunk, I'd get some good ambrosia for Mathias, except that I can't. She's dead, she's frakking dead and it's all because of Starbuck.
She was with us for… God, how long? She lead the Marine Force back on New Caprica with me when I was sent there as part of the plan to get everyone back. She was a good person and a good soldier and I think my last words to her were something insignificant. Something like, "Come on back, Mathias" because she'd been outside the Demetrius for too long inspecting that Cylon Heavy Raider for Starbuck. She mentioned something about a leak and then… she was gone. All because Starbuck trusted Leoben. Doesn't she know by now? He can't be trusted, not ever. And my husband, God bless him, stood up for her. He volunteered for this mission, so what was I supposed to do? At the time, Starbuck was a good friend of mine and a very dear friend of Helo's. I trusted him, figured we'd be back soon on Galactica, no problem. It's why I left Hera behind – I couldn't exactly take her with me on a mission like this. I hated leaving her behind, though, but the choice came down to my husband and my daughter.
Not a fair choice.
I chose my husband only because I knew there would be people looking after Hera – there's a good daycare on Galactica, plus the strange way that I ended up projecting that vision along with Caprica and Roslin? I figured there were another two people willing to give their lives for Hera.
But I need to get back to her. It's been almost two months now, and the whole crew is starting to talk like me. Mutiny. God, it's going to be the only way for me to see my daughter again. To make sure that what happened to Mathias won't happen to anyone else.
So, here's to you, Mathias. Erin. We're going to miss you, but damn it, I'm not going to let your death be as meaningless as Starbuck wants to pretend it is.
