"Hera, no!"

Sharon screamed the words out, then took a deep breath. Shouting at her daughter wouldn't do any good; it would just scare the frak out of her. Where was Helo? "Karl? Karl, I need your help, Hera's got..."

Somehow, Sharon had been careless, and Hera was playing with her sidearm like a toy.

"Okay, honey, give that to Mommy. Don't play, okay? I'll..." Frak, she'd what, exactly? "Baby, it's not a toy."

Huge brown eyes looked up from the floor at Sharon, and then a little-girl-smile appeared. Thank God they were in their personal quarters, Sharon realized, and not the daycare on Galactica. If Hera accidentally shot Sharon, that was one thing. She could just download into another body and she'd be fine; if the shot went out anywhere else in the ship...?

Sharon got on all fours and started crawling slowly to her daughter. "Baby....? Hera, honey, give Mommy the gun." Panic hit her as she realized that they weren't anywhere near a Resurrection Ship, so if she was shot, she couldn't download.

FRAK!

Her arms were shaking as she reached out to try and take the sidearm from her daughter, and then Hera cheerfully handed it to her like it was nothing. Sharon was about to breathe a sigh of relief, until Hera stood up and walked on chubby legs to their locker, opening it up and pointing to their Galactica uniforms.

Why couldn't she ever have a normal life? With a normal daughter and husband, somewhere on Earth (if they could ever find it)?

"Because you're not normal, you frakked-up Cylon," she muttered to herself as she kissed Hera on the head and locked everything back up again.

"Where's Hera?"

"She's at daycare. She's fine, Sharon, calm down."

Sharon wiped the tears from her eyes and shook her head. "I had another dream. Possibly a vision. I have... I have to go and be sure." She took off to check on their daughter, and sure enough, she was fine. Playing alongside little Nicky Tyrol -- scratch that. Hotdog was the father. She shook her head, trying to process it all. She waved to Hera, who waved back and kept on playing, and walked out. She was ready to head home to her husband, then stopped and walked to go see Lee instead.

They ended up frakking.

"He wants to be good about it all, and calm me down. He doesn't understand, though, how many times she's been kidnapped or stolen from me. A year of another woman raising my daughter while I thought she was dead! Boomer kidnapping her right under our noses after she frakked my husband in front of me!" The tears were coming freely as she let her head rest on Lee's chest.

Lee didn't say anything, but she knew he got it. Lee never questioned when Sharon got in her moods like this, and she thanked him for it. Karl would have tried to calm her down, tell her how Hera would always be safe, but Lee knew the truth.

Their world was never safe.

number_eight: (Cylon - An Army of Me)
Once, there was a young girl named Sharon Valerii who fell in love with a man she shouldn't have fallen in love with, discovered she was a Cylon, and shot her Commanding Officer in an attempt to kill him. By accident, of course, but nonetheless, she shot him and everyone hated her for it. She begged and pleaded, trying to get her love back into her life all while she had no clue what her own life meant anymore considering it was filled with Cylon lies.

She was killed, only to resurrect into an exact duplicate of her own body, surrounded by other "model Eights". She screamed, crying for the child she had wanted to have with Chief Tyrol, the life she had planned once, and the man -- Commander William Adama -- that had been her father-figure.

Once, there was a young Cylon without a name, who stole the life of Sharon Valerii and lied willingly to the man who was in love with the girl. She slept with him in an attempt to form a human-Cylon hybrid, only to realize that she was in love with the man, Helo, himself. She was thrown into the brig, the same one that Valerii had been trapped in, only this time the Cylon chose the name "Sharon" for herself as she held on desperately to her child. The humans did not consider her family, and she hated them back once they told her that her daughter had died.

She was killed, only to resurrect into an exact duplicate of her own body, surrounded by other "model Eights" including the one whose life she had stolen. She screamed, crying for the child she had given birth to, the stolen life that was back on board Galactica, and the man -- Admiral William Adama -- who was now her father-figure.

Look at me and tell me who I am, why I am, what I am... )

It all depends on who is the victim and who is the villain in the story.

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Sharon and a Cylon without a past. And in truth, despite their different endings, neither of them found redemption.

Sharon knew a thing or two about dying.

She didn't want to think about how many times a version of her model had been killed and downloaded; it was enough to remember the one that had downloaded all of her own memories just so she could get closer to Helo was Sharon was away from him.

It was enough to remember how many times Boomer had died, only to come and kidnap her daughter and frak Helo right in front of Sharon.

Love, though? Now she knew very little about that. She loved Hera, certainly, and she loved Karl. But then there was Lee, who complicated everything in her life now that they were on Earth -- not that he didn't complicate things beforehand.

Being able to download into a new body was a form of immortality, she supposed, until The Hub was blown up and that ability was taken away from all Cylons. Permanent death. What did it mean? Some of the models thought it was a good thing and brought them all closer to being human, or to God Himself, even.

Sharon liked to think that the one thing that brought her closer to being human was love.

Sure, it was a frakked-up kind of love that she couldn't really figure out, but it was there nonetheless. So even without The Hub, Sharon had the love of her husband, her daughter, and her secret lover. She couldn't make much sense of it all, but it meant she wasn't as much of a "toaster" as everyone had originally thought she was... and that she was capable of so much more than simple Jumps in a Raptor.

She could be more. Sharon just never knew that thousands of years later, when the bones of her daughter were discovered, the immortality of her family would live on in the modern Earth society.

I didn't get to see her. I didn't get to hold her.

That's not true; I got to hold her for a moment, just her hand and Karl was there, right there with me. But then Doc Cottle told us the news; Hera, my daughter, was dead. I didn't pay attention as to the hows or whys. I just wanted her back, somehow.

Chief and Helo got to take her. Ashes, nothing but ashes, and they scattered them into the stars while I was still a prisoner and trapped. A mother who had lost a daughter, and I couldn't even be there for the small, tiny ceremony that the two men who gave a frak about me got to do for her.

I asked Chief later, just to be sure, if it had been Hera. That Three model had messed me up, playing with my mind by telling me that Hera was still alive; how would she know, though? Why would she bother to tell me? Still, it was enough that I had to be sure, and... Chief told me. He saw the ashes. He saw Hera.

I never did. I sat, alone and in tears, in the cell. I couldn't even die myself to be with her, because Cylons don't die. We resurrect, over and over into new bodies retaining the knowledge of the old one. I'll never die, and yet my daughter did.

I wish it was the other way around.

I don’t get drunk, so I guess pretty much anything I do that’s supposed to be embarrassing will be while I’m sober. Honestly, I can’t think of anything, though. I’ve done some things that in hindsight weren’t the brightest of ideas because, yes, I realize I tend to act before I think things through and later on I regret it.

Like the time I choked Cottle because I was convinced that he had murdered my daughter, Hera. (He hadn’t.)

Like the time I shot and killed the Six model who was coming near Hera, threatening her like she was in my vision. (She wasn’t.)

Like the time I let the Cavil model onboard Galactica simply because I was angry about Hera getting murdered. (She wasn’t.)

Looking back, I’m noticing a trend, though, and it all concerns my daughter. Hopefully she won’t grow up to think that I’m some terribly overprotective mother.

Maybe that’s what I should be embarrassed about.

Oh, I can see it now. James McManus, formerly from the Caprica Times, announcing Hera's birth over the wireless show The Colonial Gang. Perhaps if the Picon Star Tribune was still in existence, then Playa Palacios would have written one of her award-winning pieces on my daughter, considering her own stance on the criminalization of abortions that President Roslin placed long before Hera's birth. Maybe Sekou Hamilton from the Aerelon Gazette would have had it as his leading headline, considering the false memories placed within Boomer about where her parents supposedly came from… who knows?

For all I know, there was already talk of it around the Fleet anyway. Helo told me that someone tried to get into the room where Doc Cottle was treating Hera to get some sort of footage of her, right after I'd given birth.

Right after she'd been announced as dead.

Frakkers.

I scream at the sky, it's easier than crying )

But you motherfrakkers better leave my daughter out of it now that I have her back. That's not a request.
