219 - Headline

Oh, I can see it now. James McManus, formerly from the Caprica Times, announcing Hera's birth over the wireless show The Colonial Gang. Perhaps if the Picon Star Tribune was still in existence, then Playa Palacios would have written one of her award-winning pieces on my daughter, considering her own stance on the criminalization of abortions that President Roslin placed long before Hera's birth. Maybe Sekou Hamilton from the Aerelon Gazette would have had it as his leading headline, considering the false memories placed within Boomer about where her parents supposedly came from… who knows?

For all I know, there was already talk of it around the Fleet anyway. Helo told me that someone tried to get into the room where Doc Cottle was treating Hera to get some sort of footage of her, right after I'd given birth.

Right after she'd been announced as dead.

Frakkers.

Why couldn't they just leave her alone? Leave me alone? I don't care about whatever prophecy there might be or how she might be "the face of things to come" at all.

Yes, I do.

I just wanted my daughter, the man I'd fallen in love with, and something resembling normality. But, it was everywhere. I found out later that the so-called journalist was a Cylon model Three. Bitch even tried to get me to turn on my comrades when I went down to New Caprica to steal the codes so that we could save everyone trapped there.

I shot her in the leg, instead. Killing her would only mean she would download quicker and tell the news that I'd been there to everyone.

News, lies, rumors… they all spread so fast these days. Everything about me? Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Cally was the one who started it, or at least fanned the flames. (Sorry, Chief, but you know how it is). Me? I can live with it – I have so far after all, right? Does it hurt me? Sure.

But you motherfrakkers better leave my daughter out of it now that I have her back. That's not a request.

*shakes head* People ought to be paying attention to more important things.

Anyway, with all of us together, things seem to be better. Plus, it feels like most of the crew is good with us, too.

They should be, yes.

It is. I'm sorry; sometimes it still just gets to me and I don't know why.

Because you're her mother?

[identity profile] number-eight.livejournal.com 2008-02-27 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yes. I guess that's the easy answer to it, right?

Sometimes simple is correct, too.

Can't say your maternal instinct surprises me, Athena. I always knew you had it in you.

Really? Why is that?

[identity profile] laura-muse.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
I believe I'll be keeping Mr. McManus and company busy over the next several weeks, Lieutenant. *grimace*

Why is that, Madam President?

The grapevine on the Galactica isn't as quick as it used to be.

I believe Captain Agathon was in attendance at Dr. Baltar's trial. He can fill you in on the relevant information.
